Alternative Energy

Alternative Energy can mean a great many things to many different people. It depends on where you live, work and play! The ideas and definitions have evolved over the years, where coal and fossil fuels became alternatives to wood and alcohol, now we must look to other ways to 'redefine' new standards. Some will find comfort going back to basics: opening a window versus using the air conditioning unit; walking or taking public transit to work and leaving the car at home or even growing fruits and vegetables in a garden. Others may rely on a number of different technologies.
No matter what each person chooses to do, it can't completely make up for energy demands that continue to rise. So, how do we meet this increasing demand without further damage to our natural resources and planet?
Enter the new alternatives! Interest in and Making use of those sources that are so plentiful such as the sun, wind and even our waste is fast becoming an important topic when considering the requirements for buildings and facilities. These areas can include:
- Cogeneration/Recycling Energy – making use of multiple sources to achieve multiple energy requirements, systems that generate both heat and electricity.
- Solar – The Sun, especially in those areas where it is plentiful, solar power can be converted to provide energy to heat your building and water or run systems and devices used within the building
- Wind Turbines – Like the sun, wind too can provide power.
- Geothermal – In Greek, the word 'Geo' means earth and 'therme' means heat and has been used by many different people to heat their homes or produce electricity.
Salas O'Brien can help you plan for using alternative energy sources while balancing needs and requirements. Our goal is to provide the most efficient energy sources that are relevant, but also bring comfort to our clients.
